BANGOR City men’s hockey team went down 4-0 at home to Eirias 2nds in dyer conditions on Saturday.
In the team’s first match of 2020, City’s inexperienced eleven battled hard against the elements and their seasoned Colwyn Bay-based visitors, but found themselves two goals down at the break.
The brightest moment of the first half from the Blues came when Harry Street bundled the ball home to level the scores one-all – only for the goal to be disallowed.
The weather deteriorated even further in the second half, with gusting winds and lashing rain making things difficult for both sides.
City showed plenty of attacking endeavour, with Keith Proudlove, Flynn Holt and Harry Collins Jones threatening the Eirias goal.
However, two further second half strikes put the game beyond Bangor – one directly from a short corner, while the fourth goal came form a rebound after an initial ball into the City ‘D’ fortuitously struck the base of the post.
Defeat leaves Bangor in 10th place in NWHL Division Two South, three points above the relegation zone.
Things don’t get any easier for City this Saturday, as they travel to face league leaders Bowdon, pushback 11.45am.
