BANGOR City manager Stephen Vaughan Jr has sensationally left the club.
The former chairman announced his departure from the JD Cymru North outfit on Monday evening, ending his controversial ties with the Citizens’ that have crossed two spells.
A statement released by the club stated that Vaughan Jr has left to “venture into a new part of the footballing world” but the Chronicle understands that new chairman Dominico Serafino has been contemplating a different direction with a view to gaining back some sections of their beleaguered fan base.
Vaughan Jr’s last game in charge was a thumping 7-0 loss at second tier pacesetters Prestatyn Town, which left the departed boss “embarrassed and angry” with his side’s display.
This was the second game in 14 that City had tasted defeat under Vaughan Jr, who said: “I wish the club all the best in the future and hope it gets back to the JD Cymru Premier where it belongs.”
The Chronicle also understands that striker Ashley Ruane has been released by Serafino earlier today, together with a number of other senior squad members who are now unable to sign with another team until January.
General manager Luke Purcell has also contacted Colwyn Bay with a view to getting tomorrow night’s fixture called off due to a number of players being unavailable and the added possibility of a waterlogged pitch.
It was been a difficult time for the Citizens, who were relegated from the JD Welsh Premier League despite a second placed finish and securing European qualification, due to a failure to obtain an FAW Domestic Licence.
Debts of £80,000 were revealed by the club in January after their EuroGold Stadium was closed briefly as a result of a failure to pay a water and electric bill, shortly before Stephen Vaughan Jnr returned to the fold behind the scenes as chairman.
A host of senior squad members departed during the January transfer window, with then-boss Gary Taylor-Fletcher forced to play a host of Academy prospects for the remainder of the campaign.
Much worse was to follow at the close of the season, with Taylor-Fletcher leaving his post and the FAW imposing a transfer embargo that prevents them from signing professional players until December 31.
They managed to remain in the second tier after having their 42-point deduction quashed, but their international squad have taken their time to adjust to the rigours of JD Cymru North football and currently sit in 11th spot and 13 points behind Prestatyn with two games in hand.
