BANGOR City turned in a spirited display before eventually falling to a 1-0 Nathaniel MG Cup reverse at home to Llandudno.
The Citizens were unable to convert any of the opportunities that came their way and bowed out of the competition at the first-round stage, and manager Craig Harrison will be looking to halt a run of three successive defeats when they entertain Huws Gray Alliance basement dwellers Holyhead Hotspur on Saturday.
Tudno’s cup triumph was their first victory of the season so far, and they are back in JD Welsh Premier League action this Saturday in front of the S4C Sgorio cameras at Cefn Druids (7.30pm).
A cagey opening to the tie saw both sides enjoy periods of possession, with Toby Jones producing the game’s first real chance for the away side on 15 minutes when he fired over.
Sam Jones went close for the hosts soon after when his effort was comfortably saved, whilst at the other end Jones was unable to hit the target when through on goal following a defensive error from Sam Ashworth.
Striker Les Davies was brought on in a centre half role following an injury to Phil Baker, and midfielder Steven Hewitt’s strike was parried away to ensure both teams had all to play for at the interval.
The introduction of forward John Owen after the break provided the visitors with a renewed sense of vigour, and the ex-Rhyl and Aberystwyth Town man wasted no time in making an impact when he prodded home from close range on 65 minutes for a morale-boosting goal after missing a number of chances against Newtown last weekend.
Yalany Baio and Robbie Parry both went close to levelling the clash in the closing stages, but City were unable to find a way past the resolute Tudno rearguard to condemn them to defeat.
