AN INDIAN and Bengali restaurant based in Caernarfon was among the winners at the 2024 Asian Food and Restaurant Awards this week.

Caernafon Tandoori, based on South Penrallt, was named restaurant of the year (Wales) at the awards ceremony, which was held in London on Monday (December 2).

The restaurant opened in 2018 at the former site of The Harp on Pool Side pub, which had closed in 2015.

It follows the restaurant having also been crowned Indian restaurant of the year (Wales) at the Nation’s Curry Awards earlier this year.

Late last year, Caernarfon Tandoori Restaurant also received a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice award in recognition of its popularity and high number of positive online ratings.

Owner Md Mustakin Raza said he feels the award highlights the “dedication and hard work that has gone into providing exceptional Asian cuisine to the Caernarfon community”.

He also hailed it as a “significant milestone for our team”, and also as a “proud moment for our local area”

“We’re truly honoured to receive this award,” he said.

“On behalf of the team at Caernarfon Tandoori, thank you to the Asian Food and Restaurant Awards for this recognition.

“A big thank you to our chefs, who create dishes like our railway cabin lamb and peli peli, and to our dedicated team.

“As a halal business, we proudly don’t serve any alcoholic drinks, focusing instead on delivering exceptional food in a welcoming, family-friendly environment.

“To our loyal customers—this award is for you. Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to serving you for many more years to come.”
