A TEENAGER from Bangor has been arrested after being suspected of “doing balloons” while driving on Anglesey.

Police received reports from members of the public on Tuesday (November 26), who had spotted the driver seemingly using nitrous oxide canisters on the A55.

Officers caught up with the car near Tal-y-Bont, Bangor, and these canisters were discovered in his vehicle.

The driver, 18, was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit to do so through drink or drugs.

A 17-year-old passenger who was in the car was taken to a relative’s house.

A North Wales Police spokesperson said: “The gas is a class C controlled substance and possession of this 'laughing gas' is illegal.

“Consequences include an unlimited fine, a visible community punishment, a caution (which would appear on their criminal record) and for repeat serious offenders, a prison sentence.

“Thank you to those who called us - your calls really do make a difference.”

Further information about nitrous oxide and the laws regarding it are available on the UK Government’s website.
