A ROMANIAN national who was deported from the UK was stopped at Holyhead Port after arriving from Dublin.

Claudiu-Silviu Rusu, 41, had previously been refused entry at Luton Airport on three occasions after being deported in early 2016.

Today (November 20), Rusu was jailed for six months at Caernarfon Crown Court (sitting at Llandudno Magistrates’ Court), having previously admitted knowingly entering the UK without leave.

Prosecutor Richard Edwards said that Rusu used to live in the UK, but was served with deportation documents after being convicted of driving offences in November 2015.

Following this, though, Rusu made repeated failed attempts to enter the UK, including via Holyhead Port from Dublin on October 23.

He tried again the following day, and upon his arrival in Holyhead, was asked for identification.

The passport he provided had been stamped, confirming that he had previously been refused entry to the UK, so Rusu was then arrested.

When interviewed by police, Rusu made admissions to officers about him not having the requisite leave.

Defending Rusu, who had five previous convictions for nine offences, Jemma Gordon said his three young children are in Romania, and his wife is “very worried about him”.

“His main concern is to be able to get back to his family as soon as possible,” she said.

“He has no intention now of trying to come back to the UK, bearing in mind the times he’s been refused, and the fact he’s now had to spend some time in prison.”

Sentencing, Judge Timothy Petts told Rusu he will be deported after serving his prison sentence.

Judge Petts said to him: “As you found out, Holyhead is not a back door to entering the UK.”
