ANGLESEY'S iconic Beaumaris Castle will reveal a treasure trove of curios and captivating stories as the BBC's Antiques Roadshow makes the ancient fortress its home on Sunday.

The episode, recorded in the summer, will broadcast on November 10. Among the fascinating finds and tales from across North Wales it will include the story of the Welsh Himalayan Expedition, a group of keen climbers from the 1950s who became embroiled in an international spy ring.

Lots of intriguing items were taken along to the Roadshow for the experts to value including a rare ballerina brooch, a dazzling opal ring, a much-loved copy of Winnie the Pooh that could be a first edition and - continuing the spy theme - a set of drinking glasses believed to have been used on the set of a James Bond film.

Welsh history takes its place too with a collection of 19th-century Welsh costumes including a cockle hat, shawls, and traditional silk top hats as well as a silver model of a Welsh Dragon.

Cadw is the Welsh Government's historic environment service that manages the castle.

Head of Cadw, Gwilym Hughes said: "It was brilliant hosting the Antiques Roadshow and seeing so many people bringing their own little pieces of history with them and sharing their stories.

"Each Cadw monument has a unique story to tell and Beaumaris is a real treasure in Welsh history, so it was great to see Fiona Bruce discovering the story of the castle and why it was never fully completed as part of the show.

"We were thrilled to see Welsh history given a platform on the Antiques Roadshow too and can’t wait to see the iconic clothing items brought to life as they are discussed on screen."

The Antiques Roadshow is on BBC One at 8pm on Sunday November 10.
