A 45-YEAR-old man has been jailed after he assaulted a woman at Bangor railway station.

Roland Doano, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to assault at Caernarfon Magistrates' Court on October 22 and was sentenced to eight weeks in prison.

The court heard how, on the previous day, Doano approached a woman on the platform at Bangor railway station and sat down next to her.

He then put his arm around her before she managed to get away.

Doano followed her to an overbridge and blocked her exit.

A member of rail staff witnessed the incident and called police.

Officers arrived, promptly arrested Doano, and took him into custody, where he was remanded until his court appearance.

British Transport Police's investigating officer, PC Jack Payton, said: “This woman waa going about her life, minding her own business, when Doano approached her and acted in an intimidating and threatening manner.

"The swift action by officers and rail staff resulted in his swift arrest and subsequent sentence."
