Four locations in North Wales have been named among the best in Wales for young families to live.

A new study conducted by moving platform Getamover.co.uk has come up with a list of the top 10 best and worst places for young families to live in Wales.

The analysis looked at factors including:

  • Average house prices
  • Crime rates
  • Proximity to parks and libraries
  • Population age
  • Schools

Tips for first time buyers

The experts then weighed these finding up against their relevance to young families, and assigned each area a score out of 100.

Best places in Wales for young families to live

The best places for young families to live in Wales, according to Getamover.co.uk, are:

  1. Blaenau Gwent 
  2. Neath Port Talbot 
  3. Wrexham
  4. Swansea 
  5. Denbighshire
  6. Flintshire 
  7. Caerphilly
  8. Torfaen
  9. Gwynedd
  10. Carmarthenshire

Worst places for young families

While the experts at Getamover.co.uk also revealed the 10 worst places for young families to live in Wales:

  1. Monmouthshire
  2. Ceredigion
  3. Conwy
  4. Pembrokeshire
  5. Vale of Glamorgan
  6. Cardiff
  7. Powys
  8. Isle of Anglesey
  9. Newport
  10. Bridgend

North Wales locations among the best for young families to live

There were four locations in North Wales among the best for young families to live in:

  • Wrexham
  • Denbighshire
  • Flintshire 
  • Gwynedd

Wrexham was found to be the third best place for young families to live in Wales.

The North Wales county scored 59.8 (out of 100) as part of the study which was 15% higher than the UK average of 51.8. 

The average house price for a first time buyer in Wrexham was found to be £176,814.

The major benefit of living in Wrexham is it has the second-largest number of parks within 1000m of the average resident, according to Getamover.co.uk.  

Most expensive UK cities to buy a house in

Denbighshire - which is home to the likes of Llangollen, Ruthin, Prestatyn and Rhyl - was the fifth best place for young families to live with a score of 58.4.

Ruthin was voted ‘the best place to live in Wales’ by the Sunday Times back in 2023.

The experts at Getamover.co.uk added: "With an average flat price of £96,497, families can take comfort in knowing the area ranks in the top five cheapest for Welsh first-time buyers."

RECOMMENDED READING:

Flintshire (57.6) and Gwynedd (57.0) also featured on the list of best places for young families to live in Wales ranking in sixth and ninth place respectively.

The average house price for a first time buyer in Flintshire is £180,363, while in Gwynedd it was found to be £172,186.

Meanwhile, Conwy and Anglesey were named among the worst place for young families to live in Wales in the study by Getamover.co.uk.
