A PICKUP truck was swallowed up by the sea after getting stuck on an Anglesey beach.

Moelfre’s RNLI crew launched its inshore lifeboat at about 10.10am on October 5 after the vehicle had become stuck on Traeth Bychan, and the owner was seen chest-deep in the water attempting recovery.

Once on the scene, along with colleagues Moelfre Coastguard, the vehicle was evidently beyond salvage, while its owner was ashore and, although cold and wet, he was unharmed.

The owner’s boat and trailer were already removed from the flooding vehicle and secure on the beach.

A tractor came to the beach to assist in a recovery attempt of the truck, but this failed, so the lifeboat crew secured a marker buoy to the roof bars of the vehicle.

Lifeboat coxswain, Vince Jones, said: “Fortunately, when the crew arrived on scene, the owner was accounted for, safe and well ashore.

“Due to the activity on the beach, there was a high risk of people entering the water or becoming injured during the recovery attempt, so it was beneficial for the crew to remain on scene.

“Our off-duty mechanic kindly helped the owner recover the boat and trailer back home.

“We’re sorry for their unfortunate loss of the vehicle and hope they manage to safely recover it and their belongings when the tide goes out later today.”
