A TOTAL of 94 reports of drink-spiking have been made to North Wales Police in Gwynedd and Anglesey since the start of 2022, a Freedom of Information (FOI) request has revealed.
The Chronicle asked the force to disclose the total number of drink-spiking incidents it has received in 2022, 2023 and in 2024 so far, as well as the outcomes of these reports.

Drink-spiking is when someone puts alcohol or drugs into another person's drink without their consent or knowledge.
Below, you can find a breakdown of the results for Gwynedd and Anglesey:
Bangor – 47 results
- Administering poison with intent to injure or annoy – 42 results
- Common assault and battery (Violence without injury) – 2 results
- Administering a substance with intent – 1 result
- Rape of a female aged 16 or over – 1 result
- Sexual assault on a female aged 13 or over – 1 result
10 remain under investigation; the rest did not lead to successful prosecutions.
Holyhead – 13 results
- Administering poison with intent to injure or annoy – 8 results
- Sexual assault on a female aged 13 or over – 2 results
- Wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm – 2 results
- Reported incident of rape (victim or third party not confirmed) – 1 result
One of these incidents (wounding) has led to a charge/court summons/postal requisition.
Another four remain under investigation, while for the reported incident of rape, police said another body/agency has “investigation primacy”.
The other seven cases did not lead to successful prosecutions.
Caernarfon – 11 results
- Administering poison with intent to injure or annoy – 10 results
- Common assault and battery (Violence without injury) – 1 result
Three remain under investigation; the rest did not lead to successful prosecutions.
Pwllheli – 6 results
- Administering poison with intent to injure or annoy – 4 results
- Sexual assault on a female aged 13 or over – 1 result
- Assault occasioning actual bodily harm – 1 result
Investigations were completed for all of these but did not lead to successful prosecutions.
Criccieth – 3 results
- Administering poison with intent to injure or annoy – 3 results
One remains under investigation; the rest did not lead to successful prosecutions.
Porthmadog – 2 results
- Sexual assault on a female aged 13 or over – 1 result
- Administering poison with intent to injure or annoy – 1 results
Investigations were completed for both of these but no suspects were identified.
Barmouth – 2 results
- Administering poison with intent to injure or annoy – 2 results
In one of these cases, an investigation was completed but no suspect was identified. In the other, police named a suspect, but while the victim supported a prosecution, “evidential difficulties” transpired.
Garndolbenmaen – 2 results
- Administering poison with intent to injure or annoy – 1 result
- Common assault and battery (Violence without injury) – 1 result
In one of these cases, an investigation was completed but no suspect was identified. In the other, the victim declined, or was unable, to support action to identify the offender.
Llanllyfni – 2 results
- Administering poison with intent to injure or annoy – 1 result
- Common assault and battery (Violence without injury) – 1 result
Investigations were completed for both of these but no suspects were identified.
Nefyn – 2 results
- Administering poison with intent to injure or annoy – 2 results
Investigations were completed for both of these but no suspects were identified.
Llanfair PG – 2 results
- Common assault and battery (Violence without injury) – 1 result
- Non-crime occurrence – 1 result
The “non-crime occurrence” incident remains under investigation. For the common assault, an investigation was completed, but no suspect identified.
Menai Bridge – 2 results
- Administering poison with intent to injure or annoy – 2 results
Investigations were completed for both of these but no suspects were identified.
