Bangor has been named the most affordable city in Wales for students.

The study by Edumentors assessed the cost of living in 80 university towns and cities, considering 24 factors such as rent, supermarket prices, and transport costs.

Bangor ranked third in the UK, with an affordability score of 75.99 out of 100.

Students in Bangor can expect to pay £156 per week for student accommodation and £375 per month for private rent.

This is significantly lower than the average rent in London, Brighton, and Oxford, which is around £1,487.

The study also found that Bangor offers some of the best value for essential supermarket items such as fruit, vegetables, beef, and bread.

However, students may find themselves spending more on monthly travel passes and taxi fares, which are above the average cost.

Tornike Asatiani, CEO of Edumentors, said: "The analysis shows the importance of accommodation and essential food in determining the most affordable place to study a degree.

"Most will not be surprised to find that they are located in the North and West Midlands regions, which typically have a lower cost of living than the South.

"The determining factor is usually rent due to the proportion of monthly expenses that goes to it."

The study also ranked Carmarthen as the fourth most affordable city in the UK, with an affordability score of 75.78.

Students in Carmarthen can expect to pay £130 per week for student accommodation and enjoy some of the lowest dining-out costs in the country.

Stoke-on-Trent was crowned the most affordable city for students in the UK, with an affordability score of 76.59.

The study found that the city ranks among the top 10 best places for half of all cost of living indicators, including student and private accommodation.
