LOVING TRIBUTES have been paid to a man from Anglesey who "was loved by everyone he met".

Mike Davies passed away aged 44, and was a popular figure on Anglesey, particularly in the sports world.

He played as a centre-back for Cemaes Bay FC, Holyhead Town and Trearddur Bay, and was also an accomplished basketball player.

Mike represented Ynys Môn Celts Basketball Club at national league level in the 1990s and 2000s, and remained a supporter of the club throughout his life.

He was married and had two children.

In a tribute to Mike, Cemaes Bay FC said: "Everyone at Cemaes Bay is extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Mike Davies, aged just 44.

"A much-loved figure on the Anglesey football scene and beyond, Mikey represented our club during the 21/22 campaign, bringing plenty of experience, fight and humour along with him.

"The centre back also enjoyed a fantastic footballing career with the likes of Holyhead Town and Trearddur Bay - the latter of which he had still been playing for last season.

"He was a real character who could make anyone laugh and was loved by all at the club.

"Our condolences go out to Mikey’s family and friends, RIP mate."

A spokesperson for Ynys Môn Celts Basketball Club said: "The Celts are very sad to announce the passing of one our founding members and most inspirational players, Mike Davies.

"Mikey played for the Celts in the 90s and 2000s at both local and national league level and continued to support the club throughout his life.

"He was a key member of the Ysgol Uwchradd Caergybi team that won the Welsh Schools Basketball Championship three times between 1993-1996, and was capped for the Welsh National Basketball Team at U14 and U16 age groups.

"A leader both on and off the court, Mikey’s tenacious play, infectious personality and legendary sense of humour meant he was loved by everyone he met.

"The club sends its deepest condolences to his wife Michelle and sons Rio and Cai - Mikey was one of our own and you will always be part of the Celts family."
