A COUPLE of walkers were rescued after finding themselves stuck on a ledge in Gwynedd.

Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation (OVMRO) was called out at 6pm on August 19 to help the walkers stuck on a ledge in Tryfan, overlooking the A5.

Having set off in “worsening weather”, they had turned back, but become lost on their descent.

Without any phone signal to the casualties, a small team set off to look for them.

Unable to see the hill from the other side of the road, the team set off up the waterfalls of the climbers’ descent path, and a full callout request had a second team follow the north ridge with technical rope rescue equipment.

The casualties were quickly found and were walked out to safe ground, and helped to the roadside as darkness fell.

OVMRO reminded walkers to “be adventure smart” before setting off.

A spokesperson for OVMRO said: “Check the weather, and consider what effect it will have on you and the route you have chosen.

“Do you have the skills and fitness to complete your route? Have you considered a way out if weather, injury, or lack of skills requires it?

“Can you navigate/do you have a means to navigate (digital or paper)? Can you relate the map to the ground (make sense of what the pretty pictures show)?”
