The Sea Cadets in North Wales have launched a campaign to create a new unit in Caernarfon.

Throughout the summer, they have been on a mission to raise awareness about what they do and they plan to hold a public meeting in the autumn to push the plan forward.

Part of the campaign included the Sea Cadet off-shore training vessel coming to Caernarfon in July.

Their publicity trailer, manned by cadets and adult members from the North Wales Sea Cadets District, was stationed in the harbour.

The Sea Cadets also participated in the three-day Offshore Circuit Racing Drivers Association Power Boat Race event.

Commander Charles Bagot Jewitt DL, area officer, Sea Cadets North West said: "There are a number of very successful Sea Cadet Corps units in North Wales already but we spotted there was a gap in Caernarfon and an opportunity to work with the substantial sailing community around the Menai strait.

"We are delighted with the support we have already received from many organisations in the area and now just need any young people interested in joining and any adults interested in volunteering to continue registering their interest with us."

The Junior Sea Cadets programme begins at age 10, while the Sea Cadets programme kicks off at age 12.

Petty officer Charlie Lloyd of Holyhead Sea Cadets said: "When I first joined I wasn’t confident within myself and had no self-belief, now six years later I instruct classes within the unit and volunteer myself for any event I can do to help gather support for the organisation."

He concluded by stating: "We can't do it without you - as young people, adult volunteers, parents and guardians and friends."
