FLYING displays at an event at RAF Valley on Anglesey, which was due to feature an aerobatics performance by the Red Arrows, have been cancelled.
RAF Valley Families Day will still go ahead on Thursday (August 8), but without any flying displays due to bad weather being forecast.
The Red Arrows’ display at RAF Valley was scheduled to take place between 2.55pm and 3.30pm on Thursday.
In a statement, RAF Valley accepted that this is “disappointing news”, but said it will “never compromise on safety”.
RAF Valley said: “The predicted bad weather set for this Thursday has forced us to make a difficult choice. Families Day will continue but without any flying displays.
“As you would expect, we will never compromise on safety. Predicted strong winds, a low cloud base and persistent rain will make a safe and meaningful display very difficult to achieve.
“We have made this decision now to give you adequate warning and also to forestall some of those flying display teams from overseas or travelling long distances from other RAF Stations from having to journey to us.
“This is indeed disappointing news for all of us, and not least, those of us at 'Team Valley' who have put so much into the planning for this day.
“Nevertheless, we are still fully committed to laying on a stimulating and fun-filled Families Day.
“We will still be hosting a wealth of excellent ground displays, and fun activities; including static aircraft, vintage cars and a rich variety of local food vendors and other distractions.”
