A STUDENT from Anglesey has just returned from representing the UK in Norway at a European Scouts event.

Aaron Jones, 16, attended Roverway 2024, set on the fjord coastline of Lundsneset.

The 15-day event allowed Aaron to immerse himself in adventure and Scandinavian culture, at a gathering of 5,000 Scouts aged 16-22 from across the continent.

Its theme was “North of the Ordinary”, and it was divided into three parts, beginning with an expedition across southern Norway for five days.

This was followed by an international camp at Stavanger, where Scouts engaged in a programme of activities and skill development, before culminating in a ferry trip to visit Copenhagen in Denmark.

Aaron said: “This is my first time abroad - what a way to do it!

“After arriving in Oslo, we went canoeing and hiking in the Norwegian countryside. We then travelled to the campsite in Stavanger, and it was absolutely brilliant.

“I’ve made friends from across the world, but particularly Croatia and Norway. They will be friends for life.

“Another amazing thing was having dinner with my new friends; I really loved the meatballs.’’

Chief Scout, Bear Grylls, added: “A massive congratulations to Aaron, who represented the UK at Roverway 2024.

“Roverway is an amazing opportunity to discover yourself and make new friends, whilst participating in a programme that demonstrates true Scouting spirit by developing skills for life.

“Everyone involved had the trip of a lifetime in Stavanger.

“The diversity of people they met reminds us all about what the world has to offer: new cultures and new friends, becoming ever more tolerant, and caring about others.”
