LLINOS Medi said she will “demand investment for our communities” after being elected as the Plaid Cymru MP for Ynys Môn.

Ms Medi won a 32.5 per cent share of the constituency’s vote at the UK general election on July 4, beating Conservative candidate Virginia Crosbie, who had been its MP since 2019, by 637 votes.

She became the first female leader of Isle of Anglesey County Council at age 35 in May 2017, and held the position up to last week’s election.

Ms Medi said: "Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the people of Ynys Môn for putting their faith in me to represent them in Westminster.

“The people of the island have chosen a positive vision for their communities, and I will work my best to prove that they have made the right decision.

"Plaid Cymru put fair funding at the heart of our campaign. As council leader, I saw how relentless cuts have gutted public budgets and unleashed hardship on our communities.

“As a Member of Parliament, I will hold the new Labour government to account and demand investment for our communities.

“Across Great Britain, Labour has won a huge majority and they now have a duty to that 'change' was not just a slogan.

"I’d like to thank the other candidates for running fair and positive campaigns.

“I am determined to represent every corner and community of Anglesey in a constructive and collaborative manner and work for a better future for everyone who lives here, regardless of which way they voted.”

Following her defeat, Mrs Crosbie said: "Thank you to everyone who gave their support and worked so hard in the election.

"It was close but it wasn’t to be. Huge gratitude to my family and brilliant team.

"I wish Llinos the very best representing this wonderful place. Time to get some sleep."
