FOOTAGE has been shared showing the moment former Bangor headteacher Neil Foden was initially placed under arrest on suspicion of sexual offences.

Foden, 66, of Gwynant, Old Colwyn, was sentenced to 17 years' imprisonment at Mold Crown Court yesterday (July 1), having been found guilty in May of 19 sexual abuse charges involving four child victims.

Following Foden’s sentencing, North Wales Police has provided a short video from the body worn camera of the officer who arrested Foden at his place of work on September 6, 2023.

“Mr Foden, unfortunately, I need to arrest you on suspicion of sexual touching of a child and sexual communication with a child,” she told him.

“Right,” he answered.

“You do not have to say anything, but it may harm your defence if you do not mention, when questioned, something which you later rely on in court – anything you do say may be given in evidence,” she added to him.

“OK,” he replied.

The force also shared a clip of Foden arriving in custody later that day.

Foden's prison sentence is of such length that he will have to serve two-thirds of it in custody before being released on licence, rather than the usual half.

He is barred from working with children or vulnerable individuals, and must adhere to sex offenders register notification requirements, for life.

In addition, he was made subject to a lifelong sexual harm prevention order.

Restraining orders preventing him from having contact with five individuals were imposed, each lasting 10 years.

The mobile phone, laptops and clothing seized from Foden were ordered to be forfeited and destroyed.

Foden will also pay a statutory surcharge, and £4,000 in costs to the prosecution.

Judge Rhys Rowlands, who sentenced Foden yesterday, told him he is a "bully", and condemned his "planned and quite shameful behaviour".

He told him he "brazenly" committed these offences to "satisfy your own depraved sexual needs."

"Your behaviour was borne out of an arrogant sense of your self-worth, such that you believed that no-one would stand up to you," he said during his sentencing remarks.

"It is clear that you have no remorse. You've not shown an ounce of contrition for what you did.

"You have no insight into the very serious harm you've caused to the victims and their families.”
