A WOMAN has been put behind bars after stabbing her husband for a second time.

Mair Owen, of Ffordd Lligwy, Moelfre, appeared via video link from HMP Styal for sentence at Caernarfon Crown Court on Monday.

The 64-year-old had been convicted at a previous hearing of one offence of wounding.

Dafydd Roberts, prosecuting, told the court that the victim in the offence is the defendant's husband, Keith Owen.

The primary evidence in the case had come from the defendant's daughter, who was on the phone to Mr Owen on April 28 when she heard her mother becoming abusive.

Mr Owen said the defendant had gone into the kitchen, telling his step-daughter down the phone: "You know what that means."

Moments later, he could be heard crying out: "Ow, ow, ow."

Mair Owen had returned with a knife and stabbed her husband twice in the shoulder, leaving a wound which - in his words - was "p***ing with blood."

Mr Roberts told the court the victim sustained an injury to the upper left arm, with the blade having gone through "both aspects of the triceps area."

In interview, she claimed her actions had been in self defence.

The court heard the defendant had a relevant previous conviction - from 2017, when she again stabbed her husband, on that occasion with scissors to the chest.

"But the court also knows she's been here for a similar matter.

"It's difficult to get a proper insight into the relationship with the victim.

"We're assisted by the statement from her daughter, who refers to the defendant's behaviour while growing up.

"She refers to there being violence most weekends - they would punch each other. It was clearly a volatile relationship and the daughter said there was always alcohol involved."

But Mr Edwards said the defendant had consistently denied she had a problem with drink.

Whilst on remand at HMP Styal, he said, his client had referred herself to an anger management course.

Judge Nicola Saffman told the defendant: "You unlawfully and maliciously wounded Keith Owen by stabbing him.

"This was not the first time you've stabbed him.

"You were intoxicated.

"Clearly alcohol is the underlying issue in the relationship between you.

"And whatever is said about the toxic violence between you, you're the person in court - you're the one who stabbed him."

The defendant received an immediate jail term of 24 months.
