A MAN who waved a machete in front of a doorman at a pub on Anglesey has been jailed.
Dewi Evans, 57, of Llawr Y Dref, Llangefni, was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment at Caernarfon Crown Court today (June 26).
He had previously admitted two counts of possession of a bladed article.

Prosecuting, Elen Owen told the court that, on November 25, 2023 at about 9pm, a doorman at The Foundry Vaults, on High Street, Llangefni was approached by Evans, who appeared “aggressive”.
Evans told the doorman: “Tell that bald c*** to meet me round the corner”, before walking away 10 minutes later.
But he soon returned holding a machete, estimated to have been of 16 inches in length, with a curved blade, and was “waving it in front of” the same doorman.
CCTV footage showed Evans had gone back home to collect the machete, and also appeared to be wearing a balaclava.
He was also seen to twice make a threatening gesture while wielding the machete.
Still waving the machete, Evans then approached a bald colleague of the doorman.
Police were contacted, and though Evans discarded the machete, it was later found in a room full of tools.
Officers found him in a street with two glass bottles, and had to be threatened with the use of a taser for him to put them down.
Evans was “so drunk,” Ms Owen said, that he misunderstood an instruction from officers to remove another knife from his belt, and instead took his trousers and underwear off.
A hunting knife attached to his trouser belt was also seized.
After his arrest, Evans said he had been “out hunting”, and though he apologised for his actions, he said he could not recall the incident due to the amount of alcohol he had consumed.
Defending Evans, who had 16 previous convictions for 37 offences including for possession of a bladed article in public in 2011, Richard Edwards said his client “regrets” his behaviour.
Evans “hasn’t, in any way, sought to justify his actions,” Mr Edwards said.
He has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, and has breathing difficulties, with Mr Edwards adding that “alcohol is clearly his vice”.
Sentencing, Judge Timothy Petts told Evans: “This was a very frightening experience for the doorman who witnessed this.
“Regardless of your record, appropriate punishment requires immediate custody.”
Judge Petts ordered the weapons seized from Evans to be forfeited and destroyed, while the defendant will also pay a statutory surcharge.
