THERE WILL be changes to public bus services in the Bangor and Dyffryn Ogwen area from June 30.

The changes follow a review by Cyngor Gwynedd's integrated transport team, who have been working closely with Transport for Wales.

It follows similar reviews in Arfon and Meirionnydd, with the aim of maximising the resources available to offer services that meet the needs of as many bus users as possible.

The review work that has been carried out on an area-basis, with revamped services operating on the Sherpa Eryri network and in the Dyffryn Nantlle, Caernarfon and Meirionnydd areas where passenger numbers have increased.

The changes to the Bangor and Dyffryn Ogwen area are therefore the latest phase. Over the years, there have been clear calls from residents in the area who wanted to see a better link with the Caernarfon Road shopping area in Bangor.

The new G8 service will operate between Bethesda – Tregarth – Bangor – Tesco from June 30, 2024 onwards. It will replace the former 67 service.

In addition, the G9 service will replace the 78 on the Maesgeirchen – Bangor route, which will also extend to Tesco Extra on Caernarfon Road in Bangor.

The G8 and G9 will be operated by Arriva under contract to Cyngor Gwynedd.

There is also an adjustment to the route of the G10 service Mynydd Llandygai – Bangor – Tesco Extra which will travel past the university's main buildings in Bangor as well as the site of Coleg Normal.

The changes are intended to respond positively to the feedback and requests received from local people.

It is hoped that the changes will maintain and increase use of the network, which in turn will make the services viable and sustainable in the future.

As part of the changes, standard ticket pricing will be introduced, as has already been introduced in other parts of the county.

This will offer a fairer ticketing approach across Gwynedd, with a standard price, based on one-way distance will.
