A B&B owner in Gwynedd is in the running for an award for giving the warmest of Welsh welcomes.

Mirain Gwyn, owner of the Taldraeth guesthouse in Penrhyndeudraeth, has is passionate about the Welsh language, culture, and heritage.

Over the past eight years, Ms Gwyn and her husband Geraint have transformed the former Victorian rectory into a unique guesthouse with a distinctly Welsh ethos, complete with organic Welsh wool duvets and pillows.

Ms Gwyn's dedication has earned Taldraeth a five-star Gold rating from Visit Wales, with countless glowing reviews from guests from around the globe on social media and review sites.

North Wales Chronicle: Mirain Gwyn will find out if she's won later this month

Ms Gwyn has said: "I am passionate about the Welsh language, its culture and heritage and our visitors get a taste of that from the moment they step in through the door."

She has been shortlisted for the 'Most Welsh Individual' award at the Gwobrau Mwyaf Cymraeg yn y Byd (Most Welsh in the World Awards), run by Anglesey-based consultancy firm Lafan as part of the Bwrlwm ARFOR scheme.

These awards aim to celebrate all things Welsh across the business landscape.

Guests are often surprised to hear Ms Gwyn's family speaking Welsh amongst themselves.

Ms Gwyn added: "Guests are often surprised to hear us speak Welsh with each other but then understand that the language is the one we use naturally throughout the day.

"It is what they would expect to hear if they travelled abroad and they are often fascinated to hear Welsh."

The competition's purpose is to encourage businesses to use Welsh to improve their bottom line – and brighten people’s day.

A spokesperson for ARFOR said: "Our aim is to create a buzz around the use of Welsh in a business or commercial environment and how it can help businesses thrive and provide careers for our young people so they don't feel they have to move away."

Taldraeth means 'location above the estuary', reflecting its scenic setting.

Preserving the house and its garden's original features, Ms Gwyn also uses produce from the land to make jams and chutneys served at Taldraeth.

She also operates Pantri Taldraeth, which sells these homemade products to guests and others.

The Gwobrau Mwyaf Cymraeg yn y Byd winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Aberystwyth on June 20.

The Bwrlwm ARFOR campaign is part of the ARFOR Two scheme, aiming to strengthen and promote the Welsh language's economic resilience in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Gwynedd, and Anglesey.
