A WOMAN who worked as a teaching assistant at a school in Gwynedd when she was convicted of drink-driving has been reprimanded by the Education Workforce Council (EWC).

Gwenan Haf Parry was found to have displayed “unacceptable professional conduct” by the EWC’s fitness to practise committee, following a three-day hearing last month.

The hearing was told that, while working as a teaching assistant at Ysgol Gynradd Y Felinheli, Ms Parry intended to report for work while under the influence of alcohol on January 25, 2023.

On February 28, 2023, she was convicted of driving on January 25 with 88 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, exceeding the legal limit.

Ms Parry was fined £350 and banned from driving for 22 months as a result of this conviction.

Following the EWC’s hearing, the committee imposed a reprimand on Ms Parry’s registration as a teacher and learning support worker for two years (until May 23, 2026).

Though, she will still be able to work in either capacity for the period that the reprimand is in effect.

Ms Parry has the right to appeal the decision to the High Court within 28 days.
