A woman is putting on her walking boots in a fundraiser in memory of her mum.

Jodie Ashworth, from New Broughton, will be taking on a walking challenge in aid of the hospice that cared for the mum, Anne.

Anne died last year, and had been receiving home care from St David's Hospice, which provides care to adult patients and their families across Anglesey, Gwynedd and Conwy.

Jodie said: "For the last nine months of her life, our mum received the best of care at home from a fantastic team of carers, some of whom we are still in touch with, and we all will be forever grateful for the hospice support."

Jodie and her team, The Sandpipers, will be heading to Anglesey to take on the 130-mile stretch of coastal path the island has to offer.

This will be the second time Jodie will be putting herself through the paces for St David's Hospice, having last year walked 100km from Point of Ayr to Caernarfon Castle.

She added: "Following our walk last year, I found that when it came to an end I really missed that organisation and being able to see the beauty of our North Wales coast, while keeping fit at the same time.

"I had the idea that I wanted to walk a further distance and ramp up the challenge, and thought Anglesey was the perfect coast to walk around.

"I put it to the rest of the family and they all agreed this would be perfect, so starting in June, 130 miles it is!"

Last year Jodie raised £1,000 for the charity but this time around she is determined to go several steps further.

She said: "We are hoping to reach our target of £1,500. We are happy that all money raised by us will be utilised as the hospice decides."

Shannon Kelly-Jones, challenge fundraiser for St David's Hospice, said: "Jodie and the Sandpipers are avid supporters of the hospice. They did an incredible job last year of raising over £1,000 for St David's, we are incredibly grateful to them.

"This year, they are aiming to go even bigger whilst taking on another gruelling challenge. St David's Hospice only receive a fraction of our funding from Welsh government, therefore Hospice Heroes like Jodie and the team help to allow us to continue to provide care to those living with life limiting illnesses and their families across North West Wales."
