AN ICONIC bar and restaurant in the centre of Caernarfon has announced it will close later this week.
Tŷ Castell, at 18 High Street, will close on February 24, and thanked its loyal customers for the support over the years.
The business laid claim to being the "oldest wine bar in Caernarfon", with research suggesting the site was home to a wine cellar from at least the early 19th century.
A popular haunt with residents and visitors ever since, the news likely comes as a shock to many.

In a notice to customers on social media, a spokesperson for Tŷ Castell said: "With a heavy heart we announce that Tŷ Castell will close its doors for good on 24 February 2024.
"Tŷ Castell gave so much purpose and focus to Gareth Fôn and Roland following Gareth's bone marrow transplant and as a family we will always be thankful for the opportunities and experiences we had as a result of Gareth's vision and entrepreneurship.
"Thanks to everyone for your support over the years and especially to Sion Owen for his support and hard work since opening - onwards now to the next chapter."
