AN INDIAN restaurant in Caernarfon has been the crowned the best in Wales at a UK-wide awards ceremony.
Caernarfon Tandoori Restaurant, on South Penrallt, won “Indian restaurant of the year (Wales)” at the Nation’s Curry Awards on Monday (February 12).
Held at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate, the event saw the restaurant see off competition from nine other nominees, including fellow Caernarfon establishment, Curry Scene.
The restaurant opened in 2018 at the former site of The Harp on Pool Side pub, which had closed in 2015.
Md Mustakim Raza, who has been involved with the restaurant from the beginning, said: “It means a lot.
“This is our first award, and it feels awesome to be recognised for our hard work.
“We especially thank our loyal customers for voting us throughout the last few weeks, as it helped us to win at the last stage.
“I would like to also thank our colleagues and chef for their hard work.
“The evening was great, with lots of music and entertainment - hundreds of people from all over the UK attended the ceremony .
“To be honest, we were absolutely shocked. There were other good curry restaurants on the nominations, so once it was announced, we couldn’t believe it, and were over the moon.”
Late last year, Caernarfon Tandoori Restaurant also received a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice award in recognition of its popularity and high number of positive online ratings.
