THIS morning (January 18) saw the new B&M store in Porthmadog open for the first time.
The discount retailer has taken possession of a previous 16,033 sq ft Wilko store, and has undergone a comprehensive internal and external refurbishment programme.
The launch of the new store, which welcomed customers for the first time at 8am today, has created more than 35 jobs.

Customers can expect to find a wide variety of branded groceries, including a range of food, drink and pet food.
There is also a selection of health and beauty products, homeware, electricals, DIY essentials, toys, games, gifts and plenty more.
The colleagues were asked to nominate a charity they think deserves special treatment for the work they do in the area, and chose Adferiad Recovery to officially unveil the new B&M store.
Adferiad Recovery is a member-led charity that provides help and support for people with mental health, addiction, and co-occurring and complex needs, to maximise their personal potential, and achieve a better quality of life.
The expert staff and volunteers apply a whole person approach to help people in all areas of their lives so they can live with dignity and as independently as possible.
In addition to opening the store, the team will also receive £250 worth of B&M vouchers, which will go towards helping the charity to continue its work.
The store manager said: “It was really exciting to welcome customers through the doors; the feedback so far has been fantastic.”
“A big thank you to the team at the Adferiad Recovery who helped us open the store; we hope that our donation can help them to continue to do the great work they do.”
Wilko fell into administration last summer, which led to B&M taking on up to 51 of its stores across the UK.
