A YELLOW weather warning for snow and ice is in force this morning for areas in North Wales.
Many residents would have woken up to frosty car windows this morning. The snow and ice warning is in force for Conwy and Denbighshire until Thursday, January 18. It is in force for Gwynedd and Anglesey from Wednesday until Thursday.
The Met Office have warned that further snow showers, perhaps merging into a longer spell of snow, are likely to cause further disruption on Tuesday.
Residents should expect:
- Possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers
- Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
- Possible delays or cancellations to rail and air travel
- A chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
- Some rural communities could become cut off
A Met Office statement said: "Scattered wintry showers on Tuesday may bring some icy patches in places this morning. However, staying dry across most of Wales with sunny spells. Periods of rain or snow may arrive in the far north later. Feeling less cold but often breezy. Maximum temperature 5 °C.
"Staying dry in many areas on Tuesday evening with clear spells and turning very cold and frosty. Sleet and snow showers spreading south overnight, with an increasing risk of ice later. Minimum temperature -6 °C.
"On Wednesday - frosty with icy surfaces at first, then a crisp winter's day with sunny periods. Largely dry but wintry showers are likely in western coastal regions with isolated ones elsewhere. Cold. Maximum temperature 4 °C.
"Thursday to Saturday - Largely sunny and cold on Thursday with a few snow flurries, these perhaps more widespread later. Sunny spells and less cold on Friday, then wet, windy and milder on Saturday."
Conwy County Borough Council posted on social media on Monday, January 15: "The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow and ice.
"We gritted all First Priority routes at 3pm and will be gritting again at 8pm, midnight and 3am. Our priority routes make up 32 per cent of all roads in Conwy.
"We provide grit bins for residents to use on local roads. Find your nearest grit bin: https://bit.ly/3uISDSh."
