A WALKER on Eryri (Snowdonia) left stranded after her four dogs became spooked by gale force winds had to be rescued. 

Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation were called out to the incident at 12.30pm on Christmas Eve. 

The walker was stuck on a ridge between Carnedd Dafydd and Llewelyn.

A spokesperson for the rescue team said: "Unable to move, she sensibly called for help and sheltered behind rocks, put on her spare clothing and got in a survival bag, Sarloc Rescue / Phonefind confirmed her position and a hill party deployed. They found her very cold despite her best efforts and she was rewarmed with food and hot chocolate, before being dressed in Blizzard Protection Systems and Páramo Directional Clothing jackets.

"Once warm enough to move, the whole pack was led down to Oggie base for rewarming and dog treats.

"High winds can have an attritional effect on humans and animals in the hills," the spokesperson added.

Walkers are advised to use tools such as the Met Office Eryri forecast and Mountain Weather Information Service to help plan their day in advanced.

Walkers should also consider carrying a group shelter, spare warm clothing, additional snacks and hot drinks for energy, and a power bank for phones (especially if a mobile is used for navigation).
