A FISH and chip shop on Anglesey remains in the running to be crowned the best takeaway in the UK after being making the last 20 for a national award.
The top 40 finalists in the “takeaway of the year” category in the National Fish and Chip Awards 2024 were revealed last month.
But today (November 9), The National Fish and Chip Awards has named its 20 best chip shops to proceed to the next round of the judging stages.
Finney's Fish & Chips, Benllech made the shortlist along with two other restaurants from Wales.
The National Fish and Chip Awards, now in its 36th year, acknowledges and champions businesses and individuals throughout the UK "who make outstanding contributions to food service to ensure the nation enjoys its fish and chips".
Following intense assessment - which has seen entrants measured up against criteria such as environmental best practice, product knowledge and employer accountability - connoisseurs from the fish and chip industry have halved their initial shortlist.
President of the award organisers, the National Federation of Fish Friers, Andrew Crook, said: “The level of detail we require entrants to provide hasn’t fazed our shortlisted businesses, and they are hitting every mark.
“The award officials have gone back and forth and around in circles choosing the 20 finalists; it’s not been an easy task, so what a brilliant achievement for those that are moving forward.”
The winners will be revealed at the National Fish and Chip Awards ceremony on February 28, 2024, at the Park Plaza, Westminster Bridge, London.
