A MAN from Holyhead has been spared jail despite breaching the terms of his suspended sentence order.
Peter Cairns, 38, of Nimrod Walk, Holyhead, was sentenced to 16 months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, for affray and possession of a bladed article (a knife) in June.
As part of this order, he was told to carry out an alcohol abstinence period, a “building better relationships” programme, 30 days’ rehabilitation activity requirements, and 150 hours’ unpaid work.

But Cairns appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court today (November 7) having breached the order by failing to attend an unpaid work appointment.
Recorder Wyn Lloyd-Jones, presiding over the hearing, marked this breach by ordering Cairns to carry out a further 30 hours of unpaid work.
He acknowledged that there were “positive” features to Cairns’ character, having heard that he has so far completed roughly one-third of the 150 hours of unpaid work he was initially given.
Cairns has also come to end of his alcohol abstinence period, and has started both the “building better relationships” programme and the rehabilitation activity requirements.
Recorder Lloyd-Jones told Cairns: “You were really lucky to get that order.
“You knew exactly what would happen – that the sentence could be activated – if you breached it.
“Everybody wants you to succeed with this order, I have no doubts at all about that.
“You’ve got to co-operate. If you don’t, you know what will happen. If there’s a next time, you will probably end up with the suspended sentence being activated.
“Let’s hope we don’t see you again in another breach.”
