THE wine on offer at a hotel and restaurant in Gwynedd was crowned the best in Wales this year at an UK-wide awards ceremony earlier this week.
Palé Hall, in Bala, won the wine award (Wales) at the prestigious AA Hospitality Awards, held at JW Marriott Grosvenor House in London on Monday evening (September 25).
Garry Clark, sommelier at Palé Hall, said: “It’s a great pleasure to take our place amongst the very best wine lists in Wales, and indeed, within the UK.
“We view this not as the pinnacle of our achievements, but the solid foundation with which to build the list to even greater heights.
“We relish the challenge of meeting the demands of our guests and introducing them to the amazing wines on our doorstep and the exciting newcomers that are starting out their journeys, helping them shape their destiny.”

Set on 16 acres of gardens, the Victorian country house hotel, with a grand entrance hall, is a three-minute walk from the River Dee.
The traditional rooms with antique furnishings feature en suite bathrooms, while some have fireplaces, sitting areas, bay windows and/or whirlpool baths.
Many also offer canopied or half-tester beds.
In January, a study ranked Palé Hall as the 10th-best-reviewed five-star hotel across the UK and Ireland.
The study, by Bounce, analysed hotels across the UK and Ireland on their customer reviews, to reveal the best-reviewed five-star hotels overall.
Palé Hall was found to have had 514 of its 538 reviews (95.54 per cent) rated as “very good” and “excellent”.
Hosted by TV presenter Claudia Winkleman, this year’s AA Hospitality Awards were attended by 1,000 guests on Monday evening.
Also representing North Wales on the list of winners was The Jackdaw in Conwy, which took home the “restaurant of the year – Wales” prize.
