A HOTEL in Holyhead said they are “very disappointed” to have been handed a food hygiene rating of one after their latest inspection.
The Boathouse Hotel, at Porth-Y-Felin Road, was given the score after assessment on July 19, the Food Standards Agency's website shows.
The report into the business rated its hygienic food handling (preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage) ‘improvement necessary’, and the cleanliness and condition of its facilities and building ‘generally satisfactory’.
Its management of food safety, which refers to the system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the confidence that standards will be maintained, was rated ‘major improvement necessary’.

The hotel said this was largely due to the paperwork, but its hygienic food handling being in need of improvement would suggest otherwise.
A spokesperson for the Boathouse Hotel said: “We were obviously very disappointed with our rating as our kitchen is spotless and our standards are high.
“Our scores largely reflect the fact that our paperwork was not immediately to hand, despite all our paperwork being completed correctly, along with some minor issues that have been rectified and our next inspection is due in the next week, at which point we expect our high rating to be reinstated.”
The score means that of Anglesey's 82 pubs, bars and nightclubs with ratings, 65 have ratings of five and none have zero ratings.
