A JD Wetherspoon pub in Pwllheli is set to expand by adding hotel rooms and a new terraced area to its premises.
The Pen Cob, on Station Square, had a planning application approved by Gwynedd Council on August 15.
In a design and access statement, agents Cadnant Planning wrote: “The proposals do not affect the integrity of the existing building.
“Undeveloped upper floors are able to be converted for use as hotel bedrooms, benefitting tourism and commerce within the town.

“No major alterations will occur to the existing building. The existing elevations will be repaired as necessary and decorated with the same scheme as the existing pub.
“The existing glazed colonnade will be retained, repaired as necessary with like for like materials.
“The building to the rear, which has been vacant and unoccupied for some time will be modified, removing roof and external walls down to a height of 2.3m and the area developed as a beer garden.
“Creation of the beer garden and terrace will greatly enhance the existing environment, providing a unique facility for residents and visitors alike.”
When the works begin, the pub will have to close for an as-yet unknown period of time.
