A NEW ranking table has found Bangor University to be the best in the UK when looking at factors related to student life and experiences.

Unifresher’s “alternative university league table” compared aspects like how the price of a taxi and a pint of beer, as well as universities’ efforts towards sustainability and providing a great student social life, in compiling its list.

Bangor topped its table overall, ranking the highest out of 94 universities in the UK, and was one of five from Wales to make the top 10.

Another noteworthy finding was its coastal advantage – nine out of the 10 best universities were situated by the sea, demonstrating the possible correlation between geographical location and student satisfaction.

Being Welsh and by the sea, Bangor University falls under both of these categories.

Just three out of the 10 top universities are Russell Group institutions, meanwhile.

In addition to the overall ranking, the table offered category-specific insights, including Bangor being the best UK university for a “McMeal” from McDonald’s.

A spokesperson for Unifresher said: “This league table changes the way we perceive universities in the UK, emphasising the need for a comprehensive assessment of institutions beyond traditional academic indicators.

“It brings to light the universities that have been quietly excelling at providing a complete and enjoyable student experience.

“These results hope to provide prospective students, parents, and educators with a more well-rounded view, helping them make informed decisions that account for lifestyle, safety, and sustainability along with academic considerations.

“After all, students’ time at university is limited and it’s important to make the most of it, with the help of this alternative university league table.”
