A PERSON died following reports of a casualty on the tracks at Shotton railway station yesterday (April 25).

Emergency services were called to an incident at 4.15pm.

Normal service did not resume on the railway lines between Rhyl and Chester until about 9.45pm last night.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Shotton at 4.15pm on April 25 following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however, sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called on April 25 at approximately 4.17pm to reports of an incident near Shotton railway station.

“We sent one rapid response vehicle, one emergency ambulance, and one advanced paramedic practitioner to the scene.”

Residents described seeing several fire engines, police vehicles and ambulances at the scene.

The incident affected Avanti West Coast’s route between Holyhead and London Euston, and numerous Transport for Wales services.
