PUPILS at an Anglesey primary school marked the start of works on a £10.4million project, which will see the development of 54 homes in a popular village on the island.
Children from Valley Community School visited the Valley Mill/Mart site in Valley on January 27, along with Cllrs Ken Taylor and Gwilym O Jones, as well as staff from ClwydAlyn Housing Association and Williams Homes.
Head of development and growth at ClwydAlyn, Penelope Storr, said: “It was great to mark the start of works at Valley Mart with pupils from the local primary school.
“Community engagement is a vital part of all our developments, and we were happy to welcome some of Valley’s youngest residents to the site and lead on our ground-breaking ceremony.
“The Valley Mill/Mart Development will address a key need for affordable housing for those that live and work in the area as well as boost the local economy with employment opportunities, offering a lasting legacy for the island.”

Built to high energy efficiency standards, these homes will be built with a timber-framed structure and high levels of insulation.
They will provide efficient, low-carbon homes, ensuring the minimum amount of energy is needed to keep the homes warm, which could reduce costs while providing a greener and cleaner way of living.
Bala construction firm, Williams Homes, will be delivering the construction work, utilising its expertise in delivering energy-efficient and carbon friendly homes using sustainable technologies.
Penny Lofts, land and acquisitions manager at Williams Homes, said: “Williams Homes is happy once again to be working with ClwydAlyn to deliver on this fantastic project, which will offer affordable homes for local residents.
“We’re also pleased to be working within the community, to be able to offer job security to numerous local trade persons and suppliers.
“Since starting on the development we have built a successful relationship with Valley Community School, visiting year six pupils to discuss future careers within the construction sector as well as arrange fun construction activities.
“By welcoming the pupils to the ground-breaking ceremony, we gave them an insight into the different stages of building a home and made them feel a part of this development.
“Our next phase with the children will be to work with them and the community council to agree on a name for the site once it’s completed.”
Isle of Anglesey County Council leader, Cllr Llinos Medi, added: “It is great to see the start of work on these new homes in Valley.
“The council is pleased to support this project that will provide modern much needed homes for Anglesey families.
“These are modern energy efficient and carbon friendly properties which should help homeowners during times of high fuel costs.”
“I would like to thank everyone who has worked hard to move this fantastic housing project forward.”
This scheme is part of ClwydAlyn's development programme to deliver 1,500 new homes in North Wales by 2025 at an investment of £250m.
This will bring the total number of homes in management to more than 7,500.
