CAERNARFON Castle will be closed this week as it undergoes important maintenance work.
The castle will close on Wednesday, 25 January for essential maintenance work to the King's Gate.
The castle's huge curtain walls and daunting King’s Gate were designed to withstand assault.
The castle's polygonal towers, eagle statues and multi-coloured masonry sent a more subtle message, echoing Roman architecture and the walls of Constantinople.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the site is now managed by Cadw.
A Cadw spokesperson said: "Caernarfon Castle will be closed on Wednesday, 25 January for our teams to carry out some essential maintenance work to the King’s Gate.
"Thank you for your patience, please check our Places to Visit page to find a Cadw monument near you."
