NORTH Wales Wildlife Trust is running its biggest beach clean to date!
You can jump into the new year by joining Plast Off! 2023 on Anglesey on Saturday, January 14, where participants will be removing as much litter as possible from our breath-taking beaches.
It aims to save our environment from plastic pollution and save local marine wildlife.
North Wales Wildlife Trust said: "We are running Plast Off! 2023, the annual large-scale beach cleaning event on the west coast of Anglesey. Join us on Saturday 14th January from 10am – 2pm at Porth Trecastell (Cable Bay), where we will be kick starting the new year with some positive action for our local area (and the planet!). We will send attendees off to nearby beaches, coves and bays with the aim of collecting as much litter as possible! The event will finish off with a huge plastic weigh-in, so we can see how much litter has been removed from our stunning Welsh beaches.
"This year though, we’re taking it to the next level. For those unable to attend Plast Off! 2023 in person, we are asking for a beach clean or a litter pick to be run wherever they are, whilst tagging us in their social media posts and using #PlastOff2023. Reece Halstead, NWWT’s Living Seas Engagement Officer said: “No matter your age or where you live, everyone can get involved with protecting our local natural spaces by removing litter which could otherwise be ingested by our precious marine mammals, birds and fish. We are passionate to put an end to the plastic pollution crisis, one piece of litter at a time.”
"This will become a truly community-spirited event, with local organisations, projects and societies also in attendance. Charlotte Keen, NWWT’s Blue Carbon Engagement Officer explains the benefit of Plast Off! 2023 on our local youth community groups: “This event gives our young people an opportunity to be involved in planning and running a big beach clean where they can not only take part in litter-picking, but also chat to members of the public about key marine conservation issues that they feel passionately about. Empowering young people to inspire others is what it’s all about!”
