A MAN from Bangor who kissed a 13-year-old girl in the city has been jailed.

Aled Lewis, 58, of Minffordd, was sentenced to 10 months’ imprisonment at Caernarfon Crown Court today (November 22).

He had previously pleaded guilty to kissing the girl on Beach Road on November 14, 2021.

Lewis was also sentenced to a five-year restraining order and 10 years on the sex offenders’ register.

Prosecuting, Elen Owen told the court of how he “kissed her on the cheek, made her feeling uncomfortable, then on the lips, putting his tongue down inside her mouth”.

Defending, Richard Edwards said Lewis had been “struggling to come to terms with doing what he did”.

He added that Lewis has been drinking since the age of 16, and was under the influence of alcohol when he committed the offence.

Edwards said Lewis finds he “needs a drink to start the day”, and “knows he needs to address his alcohol problems”.

Sentencing, David Hale also imposed a £156 victim surcharge.

He told Lewis: “This was a 13-year-old girl, and you abused her by putting your tongue down her throat.

“It’s the sort of thing she will remember as she grows into sexual maturity; a horrid day when a drunken man stuck his tongue down her mouth.

“That’s not the way a 13-year-old should grow up.

“You have no record of sex offences, but a long record of other offences committed in drink.

“For the next few months, anyway, you won’t be starting your day with a drink.”
