MOBILE phone retailer Fonehouse has analysed sales data to reveal that people in Gwynedd are buying the fourth-highest amount refurbished phones in the UK.
A refurbished phone is a pre-owned handset that has been returned and restored to good working order so it can be resold.
As well as being cheaper to buy than a brand-new handset, buying a refurbished phone is more eco-friendly helping to reduce e-waste.
The study analysed two years of the retailer’s mobile phone sales data to find what percentage of sales in each local authority in the UK was a refurbished phone.
While more people are opting for a refurbished handset, they still make up a small amount of overall new phone sales as across the two years of sales analysed, just 2.29 per cent of all phones purchased were refurbished compared to new.
But there was a 28.87 per cent year-on-year increase in people purchasing a refurbished handset, showing it is becoming a more popular choice.
