YNYS Môn MS Rhun ap Iorwerth has called for a ‘business as usual’ campaign aimed at helping businesses impacted by the closure of the Menai Suspension Bridge.
Menai Suspension Bridge closed to drivers on Friday, 21 October, and is expected to remain closed until early next year.
The Welsh Government decision to shut the bridge was made following recent testing of its existing hangers, with traffic now being diverted to the Britannia Bridge.
However, Ynys Môn MS Rhun ap Iorwerth has said he has been contacted by a number of Anglesey businesses about the works’ impact on trade, with many reporting a serious decline in takings and footfall since the closure.

Mr ap Iorwerth has urged a ‘business as usual’ campaign, which would focus on advertising that businesses remain open despite the bridge being closed, including advising tourists on when to avoid peak crossing times.
The Ynys Môn MS said: “Many local businesses have been in touch with me following the bridge’s closure, with concerns about the slump in footfall and takings.
“I’ve therefore suggested and ‘open for business as usual’ campaign to help those businesses who’ve been hit hard.
“I’ve contacted Anglesey Council to ask them to look into this – and Welsh Government should consider providing financial assistance.”
