CHANCELLOR of the Exchequer Kwasi Kwarteng has said Anglesey represents a “hugely exciting opportunity” for freeports and new nuclear power.
In a correspondence with Ynys Môn MP Virginia Crosbie in the House of Commons, Mr Kwarteng said the UK Government remains focused on freeports and new nuclear power in Wales.
During the Fiscal Statement, Kwasi Kwarteng announced a series of measures to stimulate growth, including Investment Zones across the UK and tax cuts.
The move prompted Virginia to ask the Chancellor in the House of Commons: “As chair of the Anglesey freeport bidding consortium, I am delighted with the announcement of new investment zones by the UK Government.
“Can the Chancellor say what that means for Ynys Môn and its freeport bid, especially with a deadline to submit by 24 November?”

In response, the Chancellor said: “Ynys Môn has a fantastic Member of Parliament in my honourable friend, and we are focused not only on freeports, but on the future of nuclear.
“Ynys Môn represents a hugely exciting opportunity in that regard.”
In today’s announcement, the chancellor reversed rises in National Insurance, cut income tax by 1p, left Corporation Tax at 19 per cent and abolished Stamp Duty for houses under £250,000.
Beer, wine and cider duty rises were also cancelled in a boost to hospitality in places like Anglesey.
Speaking afterwards Virginia added: “I welcome confirmation the UK Government remains focused on freeports and new nuclear power.
“The recognition of Ynys Môn as a place where there are exciting opportunities in these areas is music to my ears.
"As everyone must know by now, I will not stop working double shifts to get these two absolutely game changing projects over the line and deliver the investment and jobs the island needs.”
