Anglesey’s bin workers are set to observe a two minute silence as a mark of respect to the Queen on Monday.

The Anglesey County Council waste and recycling collection service, managed by its contractor Biffa, will be operating as usual on the bank holiday.

Other North Wales authorities have suspended collections.

But the Island's workforce will pause during their collection service for a silent tribute at 11am.

It comes after the announcement that most other council services and locations on the island will be cancelled or closed in respect of the state funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

It also follows the announcement by the UK Government that Monday, September 19. will be a bank holiday.

Across the island, schools, Anglesey County Council HQ, Llangefni, the Business Centre, Llangefni, Leisure Centres (Amlwch, David Hughes, Holyhead, Plas Arthur), recycling centres at Penhesgyn and Gwalchmai, Oriel Môn, Llangefni, Anglesey Archives Môn, Llangefni, J E O’Toole Centre, Holyhead, Libraries and registrars will be closed.

Recycling centres at Penhesgyn and Gwalchmai will also be closed for the day.

An Anglesey County Council spokesperson said: “The UK Government has announced there will be an additional bank holiday on Monday to mark the state funeral of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“As a mark of respect the county council will only operate essential services on this day.”

It added “Following discussions with Biffa, the County Council’s waste and recycling collection contractor, it has been confirmed that waste and recycling collections will continue on Monday, September 19.

“Biffa’s workforce will pause the collection service for a two minutes silence at 11am, as a mark of respect”.
