AYRSHIRE-based plumber apprentice Robert Reid was crowned winner of the first Casting Championships after a nail-biting grand final at the Welsh Game Fair in Gwynedd.
The first Welsh Game Fair took place from September 9-11 at the Vaynol Estate, near Bangor.
Organised by world champion fly caster Hywel Morgan, the championship saw anglers from all across Britain that had qualified in dry fly accuracy, trout distance and salmon distance at the Scottish, English and Welsh Game Fairs go head-to-head.
“Weather conditions today made casting tricky, but the five finalists gave it their all,” said Hywel.
Aged just 19, Robert qualified at the Scottish Game Fair in July, scoring 88 points in the grand final to take the top prize of a Guide fly rod.

And third prize of an Airflo fly line went to Llangynog-based fishing rod builder Steve Parks.
Aiming to become an annual event, the Welsh Game Fair was organised by The National Game Fair Ltd, which also manages the production of The Game Fair and The Scottish Game Fair.
