CUSTOMERS and members visiting David Hughes Leisure Centre will soon benefit from a new state-of-the-art gym, following an investment of £115,000 to upgrade the equipment.
Ysgol David Hughes pupils will also be able to benefit from the improved facilities as the school use it daily as part of their P.E lessons.
The investment forms part of a rolling programme of work which saw substantial improvements to the fitness rooms at Holyhead Leisure Centre (in 2018), Plas Arthur Leisure Centre (in 2020) and Amlwch Leisure Centre (2021).
The improvements at the David Hughes Leisure Centre, in Menai Bridge, have been made possible through an investment of £115,000 in capital funds from Isle of Anglesey County Council.
The plan for the fitness room, released by Môn Actif (the County Council’s Leisure Service), shows the very latest ‘TechnoGym’ fitness equipment, which includes:
- New modern Cardio equipment
- New free weights section and strength machines
- Inclusive fitness room that is accessible to all
Work on the new fitness room will begin on Monday, 29 August and is set to be completed on Tuesday, 13 September.
During the fitness room closure, David Hughes gym-goers will be able to use other fitness rooms at the Amlwch, Llangefni and Holyhead Leisure Centres. All other facilities will be open as usual in David Hughes Leisure Centre during this time.
Deputy Leader and Economic Development Portfolio Holder, Cllr Carwyn Jones explained: “Despite finances in local government remaining tight, we see our leisure centres as a vital community resource and recognise the importance of investing in them.”
