An application to create 21 “affordable” apartment homes for seniors and the disabled at a former garage site in Caernarfon has been received by planners.
Gwynedd Council is being asked to consider full plans for the Lleiod Garage site by North Wales’ largest social housing provider Adra (Tai Cyfyngedig).
The submission, for the redevelopment of the existing garage site on Llanberis Road, beside BJ’s chip shop, has been made through planning agents Caulmert Limited.
The proposals call for the construction of a four-storey residential building comprising 21 apartments.

The plans would see seven, two person, one bedroom, apartments and 14, three person, two-bedroom, apartments being built.
The scheme also includes a communal lounge, plant room, office, buggy/bike store, bin store and parking for 14 vehicles and landscaping.
Adra says the “aim of the proposed senior living accommodation scheme is to provide quality residential apartments in Caernarfon, allocated for persons over the age of 55, or for those with disabilities”.
It claims: “The rental of the social unit properties will be within reach of many of the local residents.”
The plans cites a benefit of the homes, saying: “Older key workers who gain employment in the local school, hospital, university and retail will be attracted to the area, as well as senior residents who are looking to receive support from family, friends and local services.
The scheme will be 100% affordable with all units let at social rented.”
The development is also described as being within 500m of the Segontium Roman Site, a scheduled monument.
However, the plans add that “…the intervening topography, buildings and vegetation mean it is unlikely that the proposal will be inter-visible with the scheduled monument.
“It is considered unlikely that there will be any effect on the setting of the scheduled monument.”
The Adra website describes the buildings as “being a mix of one and two bedroom flats, suitable for local people aged 55 and over, for social rent.”
It also adds if anyone is interested in one of the flats to register with Gwynedd Council’s Housing Options Team.
