A WINDMILL in Anglesey that featured on an episode of Restoration Man has gone up for sale.

Melin Newydd, which dates back to 1833, has been transformed into a holiday property, having previously featured on George Clarke’s Channel 4 programme.

The property is located at Tynlon, near Bodffordd, and was previously owned by the Bodorgan Estate under Owen John Augustus Fuller Meyrick, whose initials remain above the door.

The windmill was fully functional until at least the 1920s, before storm damage forced it to close.

The property is on the market with Savills for an undisclosed price which is available on application.

Savills said: "The building was then used to provide shelter for grazing cattle.

“The property was then purchased by the family of the current owners in 2003 and planning permission was granted in 2006 to convert the mill and two outbuildings into dwellings for holiday use.

"The restoration of the buildings then began in 2010 with the conversion of the windmill documented in George Clarke’s Channel 4 programme ‘Restoration Man’."

The episode the windmill featured on was a sad story, with Clive Bolton buying the site in the early 2000s after being inspired by watching TV detective Jonathan Creek, who lived in a windmill.

Mr Bolton had planned to turn it into a retirement home for him and his wife Jane, who was in remission from cancer at the time.

Sadly, Jane died from cancer before the project was completed, leaving the widower too heartbroken to move in to the property alone.
