GWYNEDD swimmer Medi Harris continued to shine on the world stage by claiming a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The 19-year-old from Porthmadog only became British champion earlier this year, and secured a bronze medal in the Women’s 100m Backstroke Final at Sandwell Aquatics Centre.

In a race stacked with quality, Wales’ Medi, the country’s record holder in the category, finished third behind Australian Olympic champion and world record holder Kaylee McKeown and Canadian Olympic silver medallist Kylie Masse.

The Commonwealth Games does not end there for Ms Harris however, with a chance to get her hands on more silverware in tonight’s Women’s 50m Backstroke Final.

After securing the bronze medal, an elated Medi Harris said she “couldn’t ask for anything better”, adding: “I’ve just started competing against these guys, so especially to be in a final with them and on the podium with them, I can’t describe.

“If you’d told me a year ago I would be competing here, never mind getting a medal, I wouldn’t have believed you.”

Ms Harris will be competing in tonight’s final at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre, which is scheduled for 7.51pm.
